FOSTER and RAVYN

Sadly, our working partners cannot be with us forever. Both D'Argo and Seven will be retiring from The Safe Kids/Safe Dogs Project in the next few years. D'Argo and Seven will both be turning 9 in 2009.  As long as the dogs will enjoy going to presentations and are maintaining their health and leves of tolerance, I will continue working with them.  However, I must think of the future...

In August of 2007, I added Foster, a lovely little boy from Phoenix Shelties in Michigan.  He is spunky and may be too energetic to do what the SK/SD project will require of him. Foster is a doll but also a handful. He is great with my kids but just is a lot of dog in a little package.  I will have to see how he matures.  But his attitude is great for the show ring!  In the summer of 09, my son, Connor, started an intro to Agility class with Foster. This may be this little dog's calling.

Ravyn was added in December of 2007. She was cobred by my mother and sister.  Ravyn is sweet and snuggly.  On July 17, 2008, at 9 month of age, Ravyn came to her first dog safety demo with the two old-timers. She was there more to observe and gain confidence.  I could not have been more pleased with how she handled it! With approximately 40 children all getting a chance to pat the dogs after, and having to manage a busy library, Ravyn did quite well.  It is she I have the most hope for. Ravyn is a snuggle-bug and though a little more reserved than I would hope for a project such as this, Ravyn adapts quickly and as she matures, I think will be a wonderful addition to the Safe Kids-Safe Dogs Project.  My dream is to have an offspring of Ravyn's some day in the program as well.

My husband and I are also looking way ahead. I like having a large dog in the program.  We know that in time, we will be considering our next large dog. Currently we are considering a Bull Mastiff or a Great Dane.

Only time will tell with these two newbies!  It takes a lot of work to get a dog able to manage what D'Argo and Seven have handled over the years.
